Poem: Post HEA by Liz Kreger

What happens after the HEA
Does the hero and heroine call it a day?
Do they continue the intricate dance?
Or is it an end to flowers, intimate dinners and romance?

When does reality hit?
The world of a life together made to fit.
Dresser drawers to clear, closet space to share.
On the bathtub ledge, a bottle of Nair.

Waking each morning to the same face
Flannel pajamas instead of lace
Toilet seat left up, whiskers in the sink
Sure to elicit shouting, sure to cause a stink

Fights about money, fights about chores
Fights about nothing, always keeping score
Forget the makeup, who are you going to impress?
He surprises you with dinner but leaves you the mess.

In the end, forget the fights, forget the tears.
The dust will settle in the coming years.
You love each other despite your sins.
After all, in the end, romance wins

  1. Edie Ramer says:

Love it, Liz! So true about the toilet seat and whiskers in the sink.

  2. You were a poet, and you didn’t know it
