The Camino by Shirley MacLaine

caminoThis book is fascinating! It reads like fiction and takes the reader on a journey across Spain. The Santiago de Compostela Camino to be exact. The road lies directily beneath the Milky Way and follows ley lines that reflect energy from those star systems above.

In her sixties, Shirley MacClaine walked the 500 mile journey as a pilgrim. What she discovered and learned is shared in this remarkable book. I have a confession to make. Since reading this book years ago, I want to walk the Camino. It’s something I’d love to do one day.

The Camino begins in France and crosses the Pyrenees, and makes it’s way from east to west across Northern Spain until it reaches a famous cathedral. As Shirley begins her journey, you find yourself experiencing her discoveries as if you were there. History traces the Camino back to Celtic times. Those who travel the road are challenged and enlightened in unforgettable ways. I’ve read this books several times, and knew one day I’d share it with you. Creatively, I’m inspired. And let’s face it, that’s always a bonus after reading a book.

At times, Shirley has visions and discovers hidden meaning to many of life’s questions. Food for the soul, I believe. So, if you like adventure, and mysteries of the universe you’ll connect with her journey. Can you imagine walking 500 miles in 30 days? She averaged about 20 miles a day. The road is so ancient that yellow arrows guide the way. Some are hidden among paths, and in valleys. The first documented journey on the Camino was the year 950.

Since I chose this book today, I realize I’ll be reading it again. LOL. If any of you have any adventure books you love, feel free to share. I’ve yet to find a book that captivates me so.

This book sounds great, LaDonna. I’ve read her other books, but not this one. I’ll have to get it from the library.

Offhand, I can’t think of any advneture books I love. If I do, I’ll let you know.

Her other books are great too, Edie! Doesn’t surprise me that you’ve discovered them. LOL. I’m a big fan of discovery/history channels too. I guess I have a bit of explorer in me.

Rebecca, glad you want to read it! Camino was published in 2000. Probably why you haven’t heard of it. It’s right up your alley too, I bet.

I didn’t realize Shirley MacLaine wrote a book. Not surprised, however. That’s what most celebrities seem to do between movies, I guess. BTW, I love her! My favorite was her role in “Postcards From The Edge.” Also, Terms Of Endearment. Oh, and Being There – that one really rocked.

Shirley’s book sounds like one worth the read. For once, a celebrity not pouting about their f’d up life. And how inspiring to hear about someone in their 60′s walking 20 miles a day. I get tired just walking around the mall.

Thanks for sharing this one, LaDonna.

Kath, Shirley has written several books over the years. Amazing when someone is so proficient in acting/writing. I love her movies too. Just watched Rumor Has It–a title I thought was mine btw. Don’t ya love when that happens? NOT. Anyway, she’s brilliant in her quirky roles. I loved her character in Steel Magnolias the best I think.

Steel Magnolias! I loved that one, too!
