Desk Stuff

desk.jpgIf you didn’t get a chance to read Edie’s blog yesterday, it’s definitely worth a second mention here today. It stirred much debate, and that’s always good.

I’ve read some fun blogs recently about favorite things. I thought we could share things on our desk today. And no, I didn’t clean prior to writing this, so it’s the unvarnished truth.

Things on my desk:

1. Candles
2. Monthly planner
3. Rocks I picked up at lake with grandkiddies
4. Dictionary
5. A couple of fairy figurines
6. An external backup thingie
7. Printouts of things bought online, stuffed in a holder.
8. Plastic stackers for manuscript organization, aka slotted so it looks organized.
9. Phone
10. A glow in the dark necklace my grandson made for me.
11. Garfield ruler that belonged to one of my girls when they were little.
12. Colored folders for Magical stuff, articles about writing, and business in general.

Well, that’s about it. Oops, forgot candy wrapper from yesterday and a bottle of water. I have a few pics too, and a laptop I work on. Care to share what’s on your desk today? And give it to us straight up. This could be fun!

Right now, I’m sitting in Barnes & Noble waiting for my car to get fixed, so there’s not much on the desk in front of me. Just an AT&T flyer about their wireless internet access…which you have to pay for. There’s the laptop plug, a cup of English Breakfast tea (Mmmmmmmmmm!), and my purse. There was a pretzel stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, but I finished that puppy off a long time ago. At home, my work spot has moved my desk to the couch, so I guess the only thing on my coffee table “desk” are some magazines, four different remotes, and my feet. :)

LOL, Marcia! Sounds fun to me. I’d love to nab that Pretzel. And the four different remotes does ring a bell, I have three. Have fun today, girlfriend!

Oh, ye gods! Here goes: a snoopy waterglobe, two picture frames, a stack of recently developed film, four books on crimes/crime scenes, a pile of bookmarks, at least three Romantic Times issues, a stapler, pens, giant rubber bands, an old laptop that doesn’t work, and an oversized coffee mug (and I don’t even drink coffe).

Cynthia, too funny! Love to see the snoopy waterglobe. I need to clean mine off, though. There’s about a dozen more items, I didn’t list. Like paperbacks, CD’s, and catalogues. What do ya put in that mug of yours btw?

Before I go any further, I have to day LaDonna, that I don’t know how you have grandchildren. I saw your picture at the Tiger Publishing website and you are beautiful and so young looking – I thought you were several years younger than I when I saw it, which threw me because I always pictured you to be around the same age or so. How did you manage to have children when you were five?? :)

Now, as for my desk, there’s hardly anything on it because I’ve already packed it except for the computer – I’m holding out until the very last minute. (turns out I got a reprieve – I’ll have it until Sunday morning after all) So… I’ve got, well, my computer, some printer paper and a notebook, and a paper plate, fork and cup where I just had lunch while working. (Shh… I’m supposed to be working right now!) :)

Will check out Edie’s blog. Haven’t had time for much lately.

That is, I have to SAY LaDonna. I’m not sure if I have today or not. ;)

  7. on 02 Jun 2007 at 2:35 am LaDonna

Kate, what a sweet thing to say! Made my day, I tell ya. That pic was taken in Oct, on a playday with the kiddies sans makeup. hehe. I’ll get an author photo later, for the back cover. And I had my girls at 21 and 25. Hell, I always assume I’m older than everyone else.

And good luck on the move, girlfriend. Warm thoughts your way during the process. Oh, add a three musketeers wrapper to my list. I had a chocolate attack a few minutes ago.

currently, my desk is piled high with files, an adding machine, my laptop, a blooming orchid, and my cat.

  9. on 02 Jun 2007 at 11:53 am Michelle

On my desk, mmmm, my docking station, monitor, printer, work diary, notepaper, a picture frame, about three pictures Chloe has drawn for me. An illustrated book Chloe drew for me and then dictated the rhyming prose, a case of media kits, including my backup DVDs, and a neat pile of papers that have no place on my desk, but I’m too lazy to file :) .

But recently, I’ve been working on the couch under a warm blanket (winter has come early this year!), so if you go into my lounge, you’ll see about 7 research books piled on my coffee table, LOL.

Let’s see … notes, folders, more notes, Thesarus, dictionary, did I mention notes?

The cat plants her big but right behind my keyboard and is probably gunking up my harddrive with her fur. Let’s see, what else? A dragon figurine, pictures my daughter drew me, photos of my writer friends from past conferences.

Tons more but those are some of the highlights.

Karin, a blooming orchid sounds great! I swear, I bought this desk thinking I’d like lots of space. I filled it up in no time, and it’s too crammed now. Go figure! Ah, is that adding machine to add all those smokin’ sales?

  12. on 02 Jun 2007 at 7:07 pm LaDonna

Michelle, I’m fascinated with your country! Even though it’s almost summer in TN, I always have a cuddle blanket close at hand. It’s what I do every evening on the sofa too with notes, a laptop, or good book. And Chloe sounds like such a creative child. She’ll probably set the world on fire!

  13. on 02 Jun 2007 at 7:12 pm LaDonna

Liz, your desk sounds fun! Everyone has a cat! I didn’t remember that Karin had one too. And Edie does. I had to smile here thinking of Jody’s, ‘She Who Needs To Be Held’, too. Now a baby, that’s more my style.

And Liz, after conference you’ll have a new pic to add to your collection. Four of the Five Magical gals! We’ll computer generate Theresa’s pic, making it complete.

  14. on 02 Jun 2007 at 7:13 pm Edie Ramer

LaDonna, a fun blog. I’m at the business office of the Raddisson (sp?) Hotel, and their desk is empty! Not like mine. Papers, papers, folders and more papers. I also might have a cat lying on it. A container of pens, sharpies, scissors, paper clips, etc. I can’t keep candles, not with a cat. Same thing with the lucky stone I used to have on my desk. My printer and speakers, of course. Except for the cat, it’s very boring.

  15. on 02 Jun 2007 at 8:06 pm LaDonna

Edie, hope you’re having fun! And the Raddisson, can’t wait for our Hilton experience in Dallas. I have stones too btw. And I knew you’d bring up Belle. Too cute.

You and Liz have fun and be safe! Call me if ya need a bail-out, and I’ll gather a posse!

  16. on 03 Jun 2007 at 6:50 pm Theresa

    Okay,

You asked for it Ladonna. I’ve been trying to keep my desk situation a secret.

This is what I have on my desk, besides the computer, monitor and printer. A thesaurus and dictionary. Various research books on crime and police procedure. Several well read paperbacks by my favorite authors. (purely research, they’re there so I can check and see how my favorite authors do one craft thing or another)

A statue of devil kitty (this is a cat gargoyle where the cat looks like he came straight from Hades. His ears are laid back, eyes narrowed, his wings are tattered and almost bat-like. He looks mean and nasty and up to no good.

One statue of angel kitty (another cat gargoyle. Only this guy is gorgous. A proud kitty with his chest puffed out, and his ears up and his eyes full of pride and goodness. This ones wings are like an angels wings… he looks like he swooped down from heaven.)

A statue of somekind of weird mythological creature– half man/half animal–wearing animal skins and leather half boots.

A statue of the weird mythocal creatures, weird mythical beast of burden. It looks like a cross between an ox and an alpca.

    Various note books and files.

Stacking racks full of papers/character sketches/ scenes I’m working on.

A bin holding the hard copy of my current WIP.

A round tin full of pencils/pens.

A square tin full of binder clips and paperclips, chapstick.

    A box of computer disks.

    A calendar.

A statue of a curled up dragon who appears to be guarding a clutch of just hatching strange eggs…

A thirty pound, long haired orange cat ( a real cat, not a statue)

Maybe five pounds of long orange cat hair.

    Half a dozen pine cones (don’t ask…grrrrr)

    Four tennis balls.

Three large sticks (again, don’t ask….grrrr)

 I need to seriously declutter.

  17. on 03 Jun 2007 at 7:25 pm LaDonna

Theresa, how fun! I have a clue that the pine cones and sticks were given to you by children? Or, they could be decoys for those pups of yours.

Good golly, those devil/angel kitties sound mighty interesting. You’ll have to post them on one of your blogs one day. And what’s with the mythical dude wearing the leather gear? Now, there’s a story, you’ll have to share. You must have a verra big desk, girlfriend! Thanks for sharing. That’s for that devil kitty of yours. We need an angel smiley too.

  18. on 04 Jun 2007 at 4:18 am Kathy Calarco

Durn, hope I’m not too late, girlfriend! Still trying to catch up.

Okay, on my desk, not including the computer and all its parts:

Two flash sticks; bills; IPod Nano; paperweight; papers that should be under the paperweight but aren’t; calculator; kleenex; stapler; pearl bracelet; Stein On Writing; Flip Dictionary and last but not least, two bottles of nail polish.

  19. on 04 Jun 2007 at 9:27 am LaDonna

Hey, Kathy two bottles of nail polish sounds fun! And I think I need one of those flip dictionary things. Oh, hide the bills in a drawer, could zap the positive vibes. Unless they’re small bills, I guess. The pearl bracelet caught my eye.
