Coincedence

ferriswheel.jpgWhen I was a kid, I could hardly wait for the carnival to come to town. I didn’t give two hoops about the sideshows and midway games. But I did haunt the rides and the cotton candy maker. Yes, big sweet tooth here.

Invariably, it would rain hard at least one day and night to shorten the fun on the rides. My grandmother swore that bad weather followed carnivals. In fact, her theory (on this one–trust me she had oodles of bizarre theories/beliefs) was that the metal braces for the setups, the trailers, and such drew storms.

Now, what I know about weather you could stuff in a thimble with room to spare, but I don’t think there’s much truth to storms following carnivals. Fact is we live in the Midwest, and during the spring you have a 50/50 chance of having bad weather ruin any outdoor plans.

Kansas weather can change in a flash. Like this week. We were supposed to have one day of rainy weather, and now they’ve stretched it into four days of rain.

Stuff like this happens. It can’t have anything to do with the fact a carnival set up yesterday in town. So are there any odd coincidences you recall hearing that you know just can’t be true? And yet, something happens to make you pause and think well could it?

I am a hoarder. I never throw anything away, but the one time I do get rid of something, I will need it the next week. Coincidence? I think not.

  2. Edie Ramer says:

I’m with Barbara. I’ll have something I didn’t use for ten years, and the day after I give it away I’ll need it.

Often I’ll read an article on writing that gives me just the information I need for a spot that’s bothering me. That happened yesterday. :)

Hey Jan, I’ve had the Barbara experience with tossing stuff away and needing it later. I haven’t had enough coffee yet, cause I’m coming up blank. Hopefully, something will come up later!

Hmmm. There’s a thinker. Let’s see … what often happens is that I’m thinking of someone that I hadn’t seen or heard from in quite awhile and suddenly they call. Coincidence? No doubt. I don’t view myself as clarvoyant.

I’m also with the girls above. I always seem to throw out something that has been useless for years and then suddenly need it. Grrr.

So true about throwing things out! I’m inclined to agree with your grandmother. And Edie, too. There’s some blog magic out there, where if you have a problem, someone’s blog will provide the answer.

    Strange, that.

  6. Edie Ramer says:

Spy, that’s what happened yesterday with Erica’s blog. It was just what I needed. I bet yours today will be just what someone else needed.

  7. Yep, I hoard too, Barbara. And yes, isn’t it odd that when we pitch something, we invariably need it after the fact?

Edie, I’ve often wondered about that oddity. I’ve wondered if we’re simply more receptive to grasping a concept when we really need it.

Hear you on the lack of java, LaDonna. I’ve been deprived too mnay mornings of late.

Liz, my mom did that all the time. She’d mention someone and she’d hear from there. Thankfully some people that I’ve thought of at times haven’t trotted forth. :)

    Good theory, spy!
