Review – Black Ribbon Affair

Caitlin Donnelly is the vice president and head of human resources at Northland … having worked her butt off for the position. She’s a driven woman who, over the years, has allowed little to distract her from her career goals. That is until an old friend (and flame) re-enters her life. Mike Rafferty was just hired by Northland as the new production manager. Which means they’ll be working closely together. The sexual attraction they’d felt in college re-ignites and sparks fly.

If that wasn’t enough, someone is sending threatening messages to Caitlin, wrapped in black ribbons. The warnings accelerate into threats and finally into a physical attack. With the help of her friend and secretary, Rachel, Caitlin and Mike attempt to puzzle out the reasoning behind the attacks. Several high level people come under suspicion, including her boss, Keith Jantzen and the man passed over for Caitlin’s position, Kirby Metz. Then there’s the suspicious activities within the plant itself and actions within the union.

A debut author, Casey Clifford did a nice job with “Black Ribbon Affair”. I’ll admit it was a tad slow at the beginning but the tension and action picked up quickly. The fact it was set in Wisconsin was a plus for me since I could relate to a lot of the references Casey made in the “Black Ribbon Affair”. Normally my preference are paranormal novels, but I enjoyed reading this romantic suspense and I’m looking forward to Casey’s next book.
