Indulge A Little…

Update:  Thanks for sharing your favorite ways to indulge with me! I had so much fun reading all of the comments. I randomly selected the gift card winner, and that person is…Carrie! Congrats, Carrie!

Life is busy. There are t-ball games to attend, houses to clean, jobs that demand our attention. There are sick kids.  Overgrown lawns.  Dirty dishes.  There are dogs that sneak out of your yard. There are trees that topple during storms. There are a thousand different things that can happen in any given day.  A thousand things that may push you to the very edge of your sanity.

So when the stress gets too high, I hope you indulge.

I hope you take a little bit of time to just do something for yourself.  Maybe hop into the hammock and read for an hour.  Maybe sneak away and watch a movie by yourself. Maybe treat yourself to a pedicure.

Or, ahem, if you’re like me, then you can indulge this way…

A sweet treat (these are from the new cupcake shopped that opened near my house–yay!) can sure be a delicious guilty (or not-so-guilty) pleasure.

So tell me…do you indulge? How do you indulge? How to you like to relax or reward yourself?  I’ll pick one random commenter to win a $10 Amazon.com gift certificate (and you can indulge your love of books!).  The winner will be announced tomorrow at noon, Central time.

Good luck!

My favorite way to indulge is with a glass of a good red wine and a nice homecooked meal.

  2. CateS says:

Until I retired, my indulgence was my reading time… I do like those cupcakes..

  3. Grace S says:

Ohmygosh…….I work 50 hours a aweek outside the home, have an 8 and 6 year old who both play sports, both are in scouting and I do a lot in church. My whole life is one big need to indulge but it rarely happens.

Two of my fave ways to do it, though? I *live* for a pedicure! I love that vibrating chair, the soaking, the foot scrub followed by the foot rub…….that’s an hour of heaven right there!

My second indulgence is curling up in a corner, even for 20 minutes, with a cup of hot tea and whatever book I am reading. Total me time to recharge my batteries.

Grace, you definitely NEED some you time!! Busy, busy woman. I hope a pedicure and some reading time find their way into your immediate future.

  4. CrystalGB says:

I indulge by curling up with a book before going to bed at night. My sweet indulgence is ice cream.

  5. cynthia garcia says:

My favorite way to indulge is with Twizzlers Pull and Peels. :)

  6. Amy Remus says:

My favorite way to indulge is to get lost in a book (romance of course). That is the best way for me to escape the everyday things life throws at me. Of course, it would be even better to throw in a cupcake or two as well! Thanks!

  7. Carrie says:

A pint of Ben&Jerry’s Chubby Hubby. Or a nice fish bowl glass of wine.

  8. Honestly, I read. I ask my hubby to get the kids away from me and pick up a book. Make my cup of tea and maybe some cookies and just read. It’s so relaxing and fun and it makes me happy by taking me away to another time or just somewhere that I don’t have to think about anything.

When I feel myself getting really stressed I get a facial. The only real pampering thing I do. But I have quite a few indulgences. A quick fix indulgence is a Big Mac. My weakness and the only reason I haven’t stopped eating meat. :-) Really glad we don’t have a cupcake store around here or I’d be in serious trouble.

  10. Pam B says:

My indulgence is my books. I’m thanking God for the e-reader I have so hubby doesn’t see how many books I go through now. Used to hide about half of what I read now I don’t have to hide any of it.

  11. Jen L says:

I’m with several others here – reading is my indulgence! And if I’m really indulging myself I put on my favorite pj’s and curl up in my bed with it…..nothing feels better than some down time – time to escape to another time or place or person….reading is so awesome for that reason!!

  12. May Pau says:

For me, it’s mostly candies and books…. :) That’s the best way for me to indulge…

  13. Some uninterrupted reading time! And baking. :)

My favorite indulged is Rocky Road ice cream and a new book or magazine

  15. petula winmill says:

My way to indulge is a feww drinks and a good book with my feet up. Or if I’m feeling energetic a walk with the dogs. Both leave me feeling good.

    • Cynthia Eden says:

When I walk with my dog, I’m left feeling exhausted. Got to get that dog trained! (Or else, I just need more stamina!) I’m glad you’ve got such great ways to relax.

  16. Viki S. says:

I have two major indulgences: my books (drives hubs nuts) and dark chocolate (I eat a small pc every day).

  17. Misty Evans says:

Cindy, those cupcakes look amazing. I’m jealous you have a cupcake store near you and just gave serious consideration to opening one myself. Who doesn’t love cupcakes?

Indulgences for me….writing, reading, baking, gardening (love my herbs) and getting together with a friend for lunch. I love a good massage when I can squeeze one in, too!

  18. Cris says:

Chocolate. And being a born European & a chocolate snob, I mean really, really, good (and pricey!) dark gourmet chocolate.

  19. Na S. says:

Reading is my biggest indulgence. I love discovering new worlds and stories. Books are there for comfort, for knowledge and fun. When it’s a little warmer I like to indulge in the outdoors, usually a hike on mountain trials or a walk by the lake. It clears my mind and makes me feel good.

  20. Edie Ramer says:

Chocolate! Reading. My husband and I saw The Hunger Games last Friday. And if I’m not too tired at night and I’m not working on one last thing that has to be done, I’ll sit in a special chair that the cat thinks is her massage chair. She hears it squeak then races into the room and leaps onto my lap. It’s good for both of us.

  21. Liz Kreger says:

A glass of sweet Reisling and a book is pretty much all I need. The little darlin’ is at the age where she’s doing her own thing and not demanding constant attention. I could get used to this.

  22. jeanette8042 says:

I indulge myself with chocolate and books!

  23. Diane says:

When I’m n or worn out I usually shop; it’s either for books or for PJs. I don’t know why PJs are so important to me but there you have it.

  24. bn100 says:

    I like to eat cookies.

  25. Brenda Hyde says:

Well, those are the most yummy cupcakes I have ever seen. I’m drooling. Dang. A movie and dinner with my husband– JUST US– is my indulgence. We don’t do it often– getting the teens to be home with our 12 year old should be easy but never seems to be. We always have such a good time. If we can’t do that– alone time and chocolate truffles will do the trick too. BAHAHAHAHA

  26. Pamk says:

man those look yummy. I love Reece cup ice cream. That stuff is like manna

  27. Barbara Elness says:

My favorite reward or indulgence is new books. I can’t help it, I can never get enough, there are always new books that I’m eager to read, so that’s always a treat. I’ve been dieting for the last year, have lost a significant amount of weight, but still have a bit to go, so I don’t get to indulge with food very much. Although once in a while, I just have to have a piece of chocolate or a cupcake, or else life’s just not any fun. :D

  28. I indulge with shoes. and cupcakes. and wine. and really good dark chocolate.

  30. My indulgence is cheesecake! Oh man, I cannot resist. From a school charity hubby bought a pumpkin cheesecake, then little bonbon style cheesecakes. Ooooh man. Then Strawberry Cheesecake Ben & Jerry’s.

  31. Chelsea B. says:

I do indulge (probably more then I should!) and when I do, it’s usually with chocolate. Or red velvet cake. Or carrot cake. Or Shoes. But it really depends on if I’m hungry or not ;-)

  32. Lisa Briegel says:

I know I am a little late with this but, my all-time favorite way to indulge is with Guylian Belgian Chocolates. Their truffles are delicious!
