New Release! Vampire in Distress, book 2 of Family Blood Ties saga (and giveaway)

Update – Barbara is the winner of Friday’s giveaway!

Hi everyone,

I was supposed to post this blog 2 weeks ago and, idiot me, lost track of when I was scheduled and forgot! Sigh. Just goes to prove how crazy my life is at the moment. However, the good news is that I finally released book 2 in a favorite series of mine – the vampire YA/adult series called, Family Blood Ties.

This book is long overdue and for that I’m sorry. I’ve had numerous emails from fans requesting a release date, and that date had become an elusive thing to pin down. But I’ve finally made it! I have 4 series on the go at the moment 🙂 so am delighted to have this one finally moving ahead!

For those of you connected to, book 1 in this series, Vampire in Denial,  has been up for free for several months. It’s garnered over 1,200,000 reads and that number grows daily. As several other of my YA books, book 1 ends in a cliffhanger. It’s the first cliffhanger ending I’d ever written. I tried to change the ending several times to fit in with the more ‘normal’ endings out there…and every time, I couldn’t. As far as my muse was concerned, that book had to end that way. (Not the first time I’m come up against my muse’s stubbornness and lost! :))

Book 2 isn’t much different – although the ending is a little softer! Also interesting is the fact that this book is an good third longer! Not by design, but when writing a saga, the characters show more, the plot continues to develop, the threads become more cumbersome to keep track off. At this rate book 3 in the series is likely to be as long as my Psychic Vision series books. 🙂 Not that I’m likely to hear any complaints in that area!

So this is another dark, twisted and incredibly lovely plot. I do so love those! It’s also captured the heart of many readers. So if you’ve read book 1, check out book 2. If you haven’t read either, read on – maybe you’ll like my dark side 🙂

Vampire in Distress

When Tessa rallies friends and family to find her missing date, they uncover a secret…and start a war that causes ripples in all aspects of their lives.

A vampire with throwback human genes. Sixteen-year-old Tessa finds more than just her friend in this journey…she also finds herself in need of rescue … Imprisoned, she has to find a way to escape and reunite with her family before this war takes out those she loves.

The youngest of his ancient line. Eighteen-year-old Cody descends from flyer vampires wants Tessa back at his side where she belongs – even as he struggles with conflicting emotions about his best friend’s kid sister…

A human determined to protect his people. Seventeen year-old Jared thought his life was over then he finds out that his rescuers are vampires…how can he trust them? And then he finds out the truth about Tessa…and that she’s been taken, too…

Three brave souls struggle as war breaks out around them…a war that shows them no mercy.

Thanks for letting me share today! For those of you that read paranormal books, is there one type of paranormal that you’d like to see written that isn’t a glut on the market? I don’t plan or plot my books, but recently, I’ve been asked to write a witch book. I already have an Angels and Demons book close to first draft – and that had been a total surprise! Are there any critters you’re sick of reading about? Any you’d like to read more about?

I’ll be giving one person who comments a free copy of either book 1 or book 2, reader’s choice!

I’m lucky to have read Vampire in Distress, and I love the book and the world you created. At the end of the book, it was fun to recognize two characters from the short story you wrote for Entangled, a Paranormal Anthology. I’d love to see more stories connected to Michelle Diener and Nancy Haddock’s stories. I know that others already have related books with their characters or the characters’ world. It’s fun to recognize it when that happens.

    Hi Edie,

That’s funny because I forgot that Sian and Taz, from my short story in Entangled, are part of this series! I like to see the same characters weave through multiple stories. It’s nice to keep track of them.

I’m glad you enjoyed Vampire in Distress!

I enjoy all the supernatural creatures, especially vampires, demons, and witches. I’ve been seeing more dragons lately, and I’m happy to see them.

I like to read about any kind of paranormal creatures. I haven’t seen a lot of books with jaguars in them.

    • Dale Mayer says:

Hi there – oh now, jaguars would be an interesting challenge! I’ve heard of lots of shape changing cats, but never a jaguar.

      Thanks for the idea!

  7. HUGE congrats on the new release, Dale!!
VAMPIRE IN DISTRESS sounds *wonderful* :).
