Alexandra must trust her instincts to escape danger, but be able to surrender all to find her happily ever after. Knowing how to decipher the difference, will be her toughest challenge.

My Thoughts:

I really enjoyed this book by Carmen DeSousa. She writes stories that pull out a wide range of emotions when you are reading them. She also writes heroes and heroines that are a little different than you are used to reading about. The heroes in Carmen’s stories are not the typical stubborn alpha male we all swoon over in other romance books. Yet, you still fall for them and love them in their own way. It is nice to read about different types of heroes.

In this story we find Alexandra who dreams about being a princess and having a fairytale life until her mother is killed in a car accident when she is young. Her Dad marries someone else who she refers to as “Cruella.” Because of this, Alexandra has had to be independent since she was eight even in her own home. She meets Jonathan at sixteen and they continue a dysfunctional relationship for six more years. Alexandra just doesn’t feel like she is going to have her fairytale and accepts what her life has become – waitressing to pay the bills and having a drug-dealing boyfriend who always takes her car and bums money off of her.

Alexandra is given the news that her father has passed away and her life is thrown off balance again. She meets Cameron the same day she finds out about her father, though. Her life then starts to spiral almost out of control. I don’t want to give anything away as I think all the ups and downs are what make this story so interesting to read. I did feel as though Cameron was a little overbearing at first and I would feel smothered by him as Alexandra did but he grew on me and I really enjoyed him at the end. I thought the ending was perfect for the story. Carmen writes such heartfelt stories with many twists and turns along the way. If you like clean, emotional, romantic suspense I highly recommend this one!
