It’s that time of year for gift giving, family gathering, cheerful decorating, and… T.V.! Yes, it’s time for the holiday shows. I admit I do enjoy those Lifetime and Hallmark Christmas romance movies. I watch so many of the sugary sweet flicks that you can find me in a near coma on the couch most nights. But considering I write romance novels, that shouldn’t be such a surprise.
Of course I have to watch the cartoons, and the older they are the better. One of my favorites of the 1970s Christmas cartoons is The Year Without a Santa Claus merely because of the awesome and brilliant musical numbers by the Snow and Heat Miser. I can’t believe it never received a Tony Award.
Just the other day we watched The Grinch, a true classic. I get all warm and fuzzy inside at the end when the Whos come together in song and love, showing the true meaning of Christmas. Dr. Seuss really was a genius.
While movies like Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story provide some much needed comic relief, I’m a sucker for those emotional movies like A Christmas Carol in which someone finds redemption, much like the books I prefer. Who doesn’t love a dark alpha male who finds true love and the chance at a happily ever after?
And perhaps that’s what I really enjoy about holiday movies… much like a romance novel you’re guaranteed a happily ever after. And we can all use a little hope this time of year.
What about you? What’s your favorite holiday show or movie?
