Hope you had a truly wonderful Valentine’s Day!
In May, I did a blog post at Romance At Random about the ups and downs of being a romance writer. That post included a quasi-Top 15 Ways To Know You’re A Romance Writer list. People seemed to have fun with it, so I thought I’d share more!
–You’re still a little confused by the black moment but would never admit it.
–Your favorite part of a story is the climax.
–You know that with some things, bigger is always better, and smaller than six inches isn’t even an option.
–Brainstorming sessions are the equivalent of a girl’s night out.
–You curse when your workshop proposal is rejected.
–You panic when your workshop proposal is accepted.
–You go up to [insert favorite author’s name here] at a conference and squeal, “You’re the reason I write romance,” then immediately feel foolish before slinking away.
–You check your email constantly for news on a submission and email yourself just to make sure it’s working correctly.
–You believe that people can overcome past mistakes and deserve a second chance.
–You’re constantly asking yourself whether promotion really makes a difference.
–You know how it feels to be thrilled for someone and jealous of her success at the exact same time.
–You’ve experienced the worst insecurity and/or depression of your life because of writing but you still want to keep doing it.
–You think you’ll never write anything better than the story you just wrote.
–You believe in happily ever afters.
Want to give it a try? Answer one of these questions: You might be a romance writer if… or You might be a romance reader if…

Wow, Virna! You start off light then end with some heavy ones. I go back and forth about promotion. I do think I need to do more. Maybe when I have time…
Hi Edie,
Yes, it’s all a roller coaster for me. LOL. I think you do a great job with promotion!
Hi Virna,
Love this! I’m definitely a romance writer – but wonder if maybe my deeper darker serial killer side isn’t more dominant.
Some of those questions are whammers. Especially the last 4th and 3rd. I always cycle through insecurity, depression, then moments of enlightment as I write. lol.
Dale Mayer`s last blog was …An awesome way to start the day!
Hi Dale, I love romance with a dark edge!
I have the same cycles. Really wish I didn’t. Have a great weekend! V
What Edie said, Virna!
I’m going to go with the romance reader one:
You know you’re a romance reader when you can walk into a room full of men and spot the alpha male.
