On Tuesday, I finished the first draft of another book, Haunted by Death. This is Meg’s story from Touched by Death. Even though I’d been powering through that book for days, I wasn’t tired until I typed the end – then it was as if all the stuffing inside drained out. And stayed drained out. For days.
There is tired…and then there is tired.
And this kind of tired is a warning for me. To take care of myself, to rest for a day or two (or try at least lol) and make sure my diet is not just good – but great! We eat healthy at my house, but several times a year I like to go on a juice/raw food/cleanse. The heavy influx of vitamins and minerals is a pick like nothing else for me.
Therefore, given that I’m not writing – only revising 3 books – I figured it was a perfect health shot in the arm.
I’m talking really good food here. In preparation, I ordered a case of kale, a case of oranges, a case of mangos and spinach to go with the celery, cucumbers, bananas and frozen berries. I also bought a large chunk of fresh ginger and many healthy cloves of garlic. Chia and flax seeds are normal in my house, as is fresh omega oils and lecithin – all of which will go in my shakes/smoothies. My 21 year old son is wanting to do this with me. So we’ll see how he does with a raw liquid diet!
There are very specific smoothies to help certain systems in your body. I’ll be mixing up smoothies geared to help my heart, liver, heart, circulatory system and that’s just for starters.
Here are a few favourites.
1 cup frozen unsweetened raspberries
3/4 cup chilled milk
1/4 cup frozen pitted unsweetened cherries or raspberries
1 1/2 Tbsp honey
2 tsp finely grated fresh ginger
1 tsp ground flaxseed
1-2 tsp fresh lemon juice
COMBINE all ingredients in blender, adding lemon juice to taste. PUREE until smooth.
For this flavorful, thick NutriBlast, Koff used the NutriBullet, a food extractor that delivers the perfect smoothie portion.
¼ cup parsley
1 small beet (scrubbed and quartered)
1 apple (core and seeds removed)
1 lemon (peeled)
½” chunk of fresh ginger
1 Tbsp chia seeds
Water to the max line
BLEND all ingredients.
There are so many more that I will create. (Kale and oranges are delicious!) These smoothies are refreshing, invigoration and healthy. And they will make me feel like a whole new person – in a few days!
When you get tired and worn out – what do you do to rejuvenate?
