Conferences on my mind… (With Giveaway!)

Update: Our giveaway winner is Chelsea B. Congrats!!

Hi, everyone! I hope that you are all having a terrific summer!

I just returned from a nine-day family road trip. We toured caverns, hiked to waterfalls, and had the chance to spend the 4th of July in D.C. Overall, an awesome trip!

But my traveling isn’t quite over yet. Next week, I’ll be heading to Atlanta for the annual RWA National Conference. The city will be filled (FILLED!) with romance writers.  There will be workshops, signings, parties–and, most importantly, there will be a huge, amazing outpouring of book love!

I enjoy attending the RWA Conference because I leave the event feeling recharged. I get to spend several days with people who all love romance just as much as I do.  I once told my husband that going to an RWA Con was like returning to the mothership–at the con, I am able to be with writers and readers who enjoy the romance genre just as much as I do.

So, yes, I am all in my planning, preparing mood as I have this conference on my mind.  If you’re in the Atlanta area, please check out the “Readers For Life” Literacy Autographing. This event is open to the public. Here are the details on that event:

2013 “Readers for Life” Literacy Autographing
Wednesday, July 17
5:30–7:30 p.m.
Atlanta Marriott Marquis, Atrium Ballroom A–C (Atrium level)

Now, before I vanish (I’ve got a book that I want to finish before conference time!), tell me…how do you recharge? What works best for you?  I’ll randomly select one commenter to win a $10 Amazon.com gift card.  Good luck!!

  1. One of these days I am going to make it to a signing like that whether it is at RWA or RT or something else. It would be so much fun being around people that all like romance. Most of my close friends like some romance but not like I do, so I don’t always get to talk about it (which is why I started my blog – to talk about it!). Hope whoever is going will have a great time and share pictures with those of us that don’t get to go! I love looking at pictures from those conferences. And to answer your question – how do I recharge? Spending some time on a beach or just relaxing anywhere away from work or home recharges me (with my Nook of course).

  2. Sounds like you had a terrific trip, Cyn. Can’t think of anywhere that could celebrate the 4th of July like in our nation’s capital. Did they do anything special?

As to the RWA conference … dang, I’d love to go, but the restrictions I have on my hip is preventing me. Not fun hobbling around distances, etc. I’m hoping to make the next RWA conference and I’m definitely planning on the RT conference in New Orleans next year. Hubby even plans to come with me. Heh — he loves New Orleans.

Recharging? Did that over this past weekend. The little darlin’ was out of town with my brother and SIL, hubby was playing in a band … and I had the entire two days pretty much all to myself. You’d think I would have tried to accomplish something … anything, but all I did was sit on the back patio, under the umbrella with my Nook. I was in 7th Heaven. It was hot, humid … and I loved every minute of it.

    • Liz, I took my son to the park right in front of the White House. We spread out a blanket and watched the fireworks as they lit the sky above it–beautiful! I am planning to attend RT in New Orleans, too–can’t wait to see you again!

  3. Right now, I need sleep! That would help me recharge. Lately I’ve read quite a few great books – including your latest. That recharges me as a reader and a writer.

Your last trip sounds wonderful, and so does the conference. I know you’ll have a blast!

  4. Have fun in Atlanta, Cynthia. My cousin has one of those awesome massage chairs that you might have seen at Brookstone. I need one of those to help me recharge or maybe just some simple pampering like getting a mani/pedi.

  5. Honestly? Being alone helps a lot. I tend to get frustrated with the people around me when I need to recharge, so stepping back and having a little alone time really helps. I do something I enjoy: Like read, watch a favorite movie or a movie I’ve really been looking forward to seeing, or nap 🙂

  6. a long hot bath with a good read. Here’s hoping that I can make it down to Atlanta for the literary Signing.
