Depression and the magic cure all!

Generally I’m a very upbeat personality. Over the years I’ve learned to be balanced and avoid tipping too high or too low on a daily basis. For fifteen years I’ve been single parenting 4 kids and if I’d been the type to go off the deep end (either direction) well…things could have gotten ugly.

But even the most balanced of us have bad days. Mine are usually when I think my books are crap, and I should go get a ‘real’ job. lol. But over the years, realizing I couldn’t let myself wallow – because as the main pillar of the family, I set the tone that all the others follow. If I’m pissed off, it’s a guarantee that the kids will pick it up and start fighting amongst themselves or worse…with me! πŸ™‚

And I’ve had to look for ways to actively turn my emotions around. I don’t always succeed, but most of the time my magical cure all works. What is that cure?

Learning about others who have it much worse than I do. Finding inspiration through other people’s success. There are many awesome videos out there, but here are a couple guaranteed to make everyone smile.

      Hi Edie,

Isn’t that an awesome video! It always reminds of that old motto – Where there is a will there is a way!

Those kids achieved so much with so little. I was cheering them on the whole way. πŸ™‚

Just watched the last one and I thought – what a great job their mother did bringing them up after their father died and for them to be so close.

Great videos, Dale. Watched all three of them. Very inspirational.

Well … given the crap I’m currently going through, sure, there are days when I just want to pull the covers over my head and shut out the world … if even for a little while. But then, I think about all the things I want to do, the people in my life, the places I want to go to, and I throw back those covers and get movin’. πŸ˜‰ I just don’t have time to give in to depression.

I also think of something my SIL told me over 15 years ago. She said, “You have twenty minutes to feel sorry for yourself … then get over it.”

It always makes me smile … and “I get over it”.
