First Ever Indie Romance Convention

Last weekend I got to attend the first ever Indie Romance Convention. This conference was held in Lebanon, TN and had a little over 100 people. The amazing thing is that this conference was started by a blogger. Yep, just a normal, everyday blogger who loves to read romance books. Laurie, from Bitten by Paranormal Romance, wanted a conference that brought the reader together with the author. And she did!

I’ve been to quite a few conferences and this had by far the highest ratio of readers/bloggers to authors. The great thing was that it was small enough to make friends…I mean real, true friends, and many of them were readers who merely love books. Everyone (authors, readers, bloggers) was so friendly and helpful, eager to assist in any way. But that’s the great thing about Indie writing…there isn’t the competitiveness I used to see with New York authors because there is room for us all! There’s no need to worry about hitting a space in that publishing company.

The entire publishing world has changed so much in the past couple years. When I went to the RWA conference in Atlanta just a few months ago what amazed me the most was the presence of Indie authors. The amount of authors who are self-publishing is staggering. In fact, the book signing for Indie authors at RWA was more crowded than many of the N.Y. publisher book signings. With Indie publishing the most important people benefit. Asecuredownload[1]uthors are able to price books cheaper for readers, and at the same time make more money. Crazy how that works. The more conferences I go to and the more readers I met, one thing stands out clear…readers and authors are now in charge of what sells, as it should be.

It just so happens that I managed to bring home a handful of those self-published books from the two conferences mentioned above. I’ve got a bundle of four Indie Paperback books to give away to one reader. Just leave a comment and I’ll pick a winner!

Lori, that sounds like the perfect conference for me. I would’ve loved to have been there. I’m glad you had such a great time. And I see you have a Courtney Milan book. She’s always so helpful on the indie loops. And she’s a great writer, too!

  3. I LOVE romance in books and hey, who doesn’t need a little romance in their lives, right?? I absolutely LOVE Indie Authors. Indie Authors have published some of the BEST books I have ever read in my life. I would have loved to have gone to this convention just so I could have chatted with you and everyone else there.
For me as a Blogger & Reader something like this would be amazing so that I could connect with the Authors who’s books I promote endlessly online. Thank You so much for the opportunity to win some sweet books!
