For my guests for today, I have the pleasure of introducing three of my wonderful friends who are taking the Romance/New Adult world by storm! (Plus, check out the giveaway below!!)
Olivia Mayfield — who also writes as Rhonda Helms — has a thrilling new mystery romance series out (a 6-part serial!) called The Inheritance. Caisey Quinn , author of the popular Kylie Ryans/Girl With Guitar series, recently released a special edition of her college-set romance Keep Me Still. And Lexi Ryan has out her latest hot new adult novel, Wish I May (a companion story to her New York Times & USA Today bestseller Unbreak Me), this month!
I asked each of them to share with us a little bit about their Halloweens from past years and to tell us about these brand new and very exciting novels :). Welcome to Magical Musings, ladies!!
What’s one of your favorite Halloween memories from anytime in your life? I think it’s probably taking my kids out when they were really little, actually. There’s nothing like a small child foaming at the mouth for free candy that makes a day fun. lol. My daughter has always loved dressing up, and helping her pick out a new costume each year was a blast. My son didn’t care about that part but did whatever it took to have candy. hah
And what’s your favorite Halloween candy? Three Musketeers. I can destroy about 2000 “fun-sized” bars just by myself. NOM.
The Inheritance, Part I – The Will
Maggie Willings knew that returning home for her estranged grandfather’s funeral would not be easy, but she never expected the reading of his will to be the most difficult part. The four people named in the will—Maggie, her brother Robert, her ex-boyfriend Andrew, and her grandfather’s far-too-young girlfriend Bethany—are given a challenge: find out the truth about what happened to Maggie’s younger sister Cassandra, who vanished over eight years ago, and win the entirety of the estate.
Maggie is thrown by the strange request, reluctant to drag up painful memories of her sister’s disappearance, and bothered by her lingering attraction to Andrew, who wants to team up to solve the mystery. But there are ten million dollars on the line and Maggie has no idea where to start—or who she’ll be able to trust.
More great stories ahead… Don’t miss The Inheritance, Parts II, III, IV, V and VI, as well!!
What’s one of your favorite Halloween memories from anytime in your life? One of my favorite Halloweens was in 2006. My college boyfriend (and now husband) took me to a haunted house/hayride that nearly gave me half a dozen heart attacks–but scary people jumping out with chainsaws was the perfect excuse for snuggling close and squealing like a teenager. We didn’t know each other in high school so it was fun to go on a high-school-ish date with him. 😉
And what’s your favorite Halloween candy? My favorite Halloween candy is good old fashioned candy corn. We melt down the leftovers with peanut butter and dip in chocolate. It’s just like a Butterfinger candy bar!
Layla Flaherty had the perfect life, or close to it. Until a stranger gunned her parents down right in front of her, leaving her with seizure inducing PTSD. After years of trying to pass as normal and failing miserably, she resigns herself to being invisible. But new to town Landen O’Brien sees her, and he likes what he sees. Much to Layla’s surprise, he doesn’t freak out when she has a seizure in front of him. He does the exact opposite, calming her until the tremors subside. But Landen has secrets of his own. Secrets that tear them apart.
Scarred by loss, Layla leaves her hometown of Hope Springs, Georgia, hoping to put her painful past behind her and start over in college in California. When she runs into Landen at freshmen orientation, she has a choice to make. Reinforce those steel walls she’s built up around herself, or give the only boy who can keep her still a second chance.
Landen’s more than ready to tear down those walls, but this time when they come crashing down, they might bury her.
What’s one of your favorite Halloween memories from anytime in your life? When I was in college, my husband (then-boyfriend) and I went to a party together and he dressed a a monk. The main piece of the costume was a floor-length brown gown (for lack of a better word). At the time, his mother was still doing his laundry (don’t get me started), and according to his father, as she was going through the laundry after that Halloween, she found the costume but thought it was my nightgown. Apparently, she held it up to show his dad. She shook her head and said, “I just hope they’re being careful.” As if she’d have anything to worry about if I was wearing THAT to bed! LOL
And what’s your favorite Halloween candy? My favorite candy is Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, in any holiday variation–egg, Christmas tree, pumpkin, whatever. That’s my absolute favorite year-round! 🙂
Wish I May
I grew up wishing on stars.
My father taught me to believe…in destiny, in magic, in happily ever after. Dreams were my scripture and the starry night sky was my temple. Then Mom stopped believing, left him, and took us with her. At the age of sixteen, I cashed in my dreams to pay the rent, pawned my destiny to keep my sisters together.
Now, seven years later, I’m returning home, grieving the death of my mother, and settling my sisters back into the life Mom threw away. I never intended to stay. I don’t want to deal with my father, who is so invested in the spiritual world he forgets the physical. I don’t want to face William Bailey, whose eyes remind me of the girl I was, the things I’ve done, and the future I lost.
This would all be easier if Will hated me. As it is, I have to hold my secrets close so they won’t hurt him more than they’ve already hurt me. But he wants to be in my life. He wants what I can’t bring myself to confess I sold. He wants me.
I find myself looking to my stars again…wondering if I dare one more wish.
And, just because it’s Halloween and I’m all about the TREATS, I’m giving away one Kindle or Nook copy of each of these three titles!! So, just leave a comment below about your favorite Halloween memory — or fave candy! — and I’ll draw 3 winning names on Monday night, November 4th — with one person winning The Inheritance, part 1, another person winning Keep Me Still, and the third winning Wish I May — ALL such awesome reads!
