The Hallmark Channel

HallmarkI’m not really sure why, but I’ve been watching a lot of the Hallmark Channel lately. They’re doing what they call the 28 Days To Christmas and are showing all Christmas related movies. Perhaps I’m watching because I’m trying to get into the holiday spirit. Either that or it’s a sorta white noise that I use while reading.

Whatever reason, all of the stories revolve around the holidays and they’re (for the most part) love stories. I have to say though, around 75% of them are totally hokey. Over the past week or two, I’ve probably watched — or tried to watch, around a dozen movies so far. Some are so-so, some are so stupid that I had to switch the channel to some other mindless drivel, but every once in awhile I’d hit on a pretty good story. Unfortunately, those are few and far between. The “Love at the Thanksgiving Parade” was switched within the first twenty minutes, as was “A Princess for Christmas”.  The best one I’ve seen so far was last night’s “A Very Merry Mix-Up”.  It was more cute than anything.

I pride myself on the fact that I really don’t watch a hellava lot of television, so I can’t explain my fascination for this particular channel. I can only imagine it’s the opportunity to actually watch something that has romance in it. Nowadays you really don’t find television movies with romance. It’s mostly car chases, cop stories, something violent so some sort of toilet humor that I personally cannot stomach.

What do you think? Do we really need to know what the Kardashiana are doing? Do we care? And I’m still trying to figure out the popularity of that Duck Dynasty business. Never sat down to watch it but did pause briefly while channel surfing. Is there something I’m missing when it comes to these reality shows?

I think I’ll stick with the Hallmark Channel for awhile longer … drivel and all.

Liz, I did watch 2 Christmas shows recently. I only watched one all the way through because Dolly Parton was on it. My husband is hooked on the pawn shop show and American Pickers. On weeknights, I’m a fan of The Voice and a few other shows. Weekends are the worst for TV. That’s when I watch HGTV.

Saw that one with Dolly Parton listed but didn’t watch it. Funny what people get hooked on. I gave up on HGTV. Way too much complaining and high expectations. The budget of a young couple at over $400,000? No … ain’t buyin’ it.

  2. I love watching all the holiday rom-coms on TV this time of year. ABC Family airs a lot of them too.

  3. Hi Liz! I love watching all those holiday romance movies too! Yes, sometimes they’re pretty cheesy, but I always end up smiling. I guess that makes me cheesy? Who are the Kardashians? LOL I’m not a fan of those kinds of reality shows. I have taken a peek now and then, but I don’t really feel good while I’m watching them so I switch to something else pretty quick. I haven’t seen Duck Dynasty, but they’re kicking some ratings butt I believe. Crazy!

LOL on the Kardashian comment, Robin. I’m still trying to figure out their claim to fame … other than being totally dysfunctional.

It was funny, but our local newspaper had a piece on the Duck Dynasty. (Talk about timing). Apparently they’re making millions not only on the television show, but on all the marketing swag that people are idiots to purchase. Again … I personally don’t see the attraction.

  4. I could care less about the Kardouchians but I love the Hallmark channel, hokey and all. 🙂

Glad to hear that, Karin. You’re obviously a woman of taste.

And while we’re on the subject … what’s with this “Honey Boo-Boo” crap? I accidentally hit on it once and in the minute or so of viewing it, I could feel my IQ points dropping. 😯
