Last week I had a craving for In-N-Out Burger. In-N-Out, for those of you who might not be familiar with it, is the BEST drive-thru hamburger restaurant on the planet. If you live in California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah or Texas, you’re in luck and can get a double double with fries and a drink like I occasionally splurge on. And if you don’t live in one of those states, come visit me and I’ll take you! Anyway, because it is the yummiest of burgers, there is always a long line. Like really long.
So there my hubby was, waiting in line for me while I was home writing, and it was taking forever. He texted me: I’m still in line at In-N-Out. I think it had been something like twenty minutes. So I texted back: Yowsa!
And guess what happened? The autocorrect on my iPhone changed it to Toads.
I found this highly amusing. How the heck does yowsa become toads? After backspacing and typing my Yowsa again so it stuck and sending it off, I typed in Toads!
You know, because I was suffering from severe hunger pains and wondered if it might change to Yowsa! It didn’t. So then I decided to find out what other trickery autocorrect had up its sleeve.
I typed in jiggy and hey there, got jiffy. I typed in yippee and bonehead and razzmatazz. They all stuck! Gadzooks did too. Then I typed in crapplet and got grappler. Willy-nilly turned into Willy-Billy. (I think this means we should watch out for anyone named Billy. Just kidding if your name is Billy.)
Googly moogly turned into goodly mildly
As a writer, I totally geeked out over this. How often have I struggled for just the right word in my novels? How often do I repeat words and thankfully my awesome editors catch the repetition—sometimes in the same paragraph! Sheesh. If I’d known I could busy myself with texts to my hubby and discover new words for old words, I would have been on it a lot sooner. LOL
Lastly, I typed in humdinger. It changed to… any guesses?… gunsights
Oh, and hey, Happy 11-12-13! This is the second to last consecutive series of date numbers this century! (Next year’s 12/13/14 will be the last.) And you know what this means, don’t you? There’s a rush to the altar! Couples love dates with patterns (and heck, there’s no way to forget your anniversary now). To celebrate this special day, and my book, KISSING THE MAID OF HONOR, I’ve got a giveaway on my personal blog. I hope you’ll stop by and check it out! http://www.robinbielman.com/blog
So tell me, have you had any texting or autocorrect mishaps? Have a word to throw into my mix? Text it to me! Kidding. Leave me a comment. Any comment! 😀
