Middle of winter, tired, and… daydreaming!

I’d love to build a dream home. Uh…let me change that… I’d love to own my dream home. :) The thing is, that’s not likely to happen any time soon. That doesn’t stop me from thinking about what I’d want as part of my home. A place to sit and relax while I read and or write is paramount. Hence this inside look to some unique ideas of libraries in what could be my own home!

So let’s take a look at a few of these ideas.

I think a large part of the appeal of this library is the open air look!

For this next one I love the shape and the space saving aspect.

A library shelf – I could really use that!

Wow. I want this!

This would be nice and cozy and almost doable in my current house!

Same place!

From the same place!

This would be my daughter’s ideal library style!

But I have to wonder – if in the future most libraries won’t end up looking like this!

Personally, I read at night and in my office – but I’d love a space like one of these!  What about you readers – do you like any of the above? Do you even want a home library? Where do you currently read books in your own home? Bed? Living room? Kitchen?

I like quite a few of those! We plan on downsizing in 2 – 3 years. When we move, one of the things that might go could be my “keeper” books. I’ll feel bad about it, but I’m not re-reading as much as I used to. With so many books on my Kindle, I never run out of reading material!

Love the 4th one, Dale. It’s always fun to dream about reading spaces and libraries. I’ll read just about anywhere, and I use to carry a book with me every time I left the house. I still do, but now, they’re on my phone or Kindle. I’ve been passing on a lot of books I’ve had for years and never even read. It’s time they found others who will enjoy them. I still have six bookshelves throughout my house, so there’s no lack of physical books to read.

One of my favorite spots to read years ago was a window bench seat my hubby built in our 100+ year old home. It was right in front of a huge window that let in a lot of sun and light. I loved it there! A little nook to hide for ten minutes and read while the twins slept. I’d love to have another window seat in the future for the same purpose. :)

      Hi Misty,

I’ve always wanted a window seat – but I know I’d never get to sit on it myself – my cats would hog it all!

I don’t like reading on my phone nor on my kindle but my daughter received a large tablet for Christmas and I can see myself reading on that! So not sure what to do with all my books though. Probably downsize to one or two bookshelves and give away the rest.

I like the fourth picture as much because I’d be living in a different climate where I could have walls of glass!

I love those libraries, Dale! I hope to have more than a little bookshelf some day…even if it is just to look at while I read on my Nook. We do have a plan for an office/library in the basement, but I don’t anticipate I’ll read there. I prefer to be in my over sized chair in my living room (while the family watches TV) or in my bed under the covers. Those are my two favorite places if I am in it for a long time. Otherwise, I will be found reading on my phone or Nook standing by the counter waiting for kids to get their shoes and coats on, at the table while enjoying a snack, in the bathroom (ha ha, yes, I said that!) or in my car while waiting on someone, etc. People ask me how I get through so many books – because I have my phone and read on it all the time even if it is 5 minutes here or there.

  4. Very cool! If only I could win the lottery and build a library like one of those. LOL. Thanks for sharing. Those are some awesome home libraries.

  5. Hi Dale! Oh my gosh, I loved those pictures. I think I’d like dibs on the fifth one please. Although the fourth one looked pretty comfy, too. Oh heck, put a good book in my hands and it doesn’t really matter where I am!

      Hi Robin,

Yep that fifth one would be just about perfect! It’s not so much as needing a place to read, as much as needing a place for me! lol. :)

  6. LOVE the window seat one, Dale. That’s just my cup of tea. And I read everywhere I can carry a book and not have a fatal accident :)
