Re-watching Saved by the Bell

Every summer, I pick out a TV show to watch. Sometimes, it’s a new show that I’ve heard folks buzzing about. But more often than not, I chose an old TV show — either something that I remember watching as a kid or something that I always wanted to watch and just never had time to.

In previous summers, I’ve re-watched The A-Team, which was my absolute favorite show as a kid. And yeah, probably as an adult too. LOL. I’ve also watched all eight seasons of Magnum P.I., which was escapist fun, and I’ve checked out the first season of Miami Vice, which was way darker and more depressing than I thought it would be.

Saved by the BellThis summer, I decided to re-watch Saved by the Bell.

As a kid, I loved Saved by the Bell, especially Mr. Zack Morris. I was totally Team Zack from day one. Seriously, Kelly, why did you spend so much time dating Slater? Zack was always so much cooler.

I have fond memories of Zack and the gang and all their hijinks, and I remember a lot of the episodes. Seriously, a lot of them. I don’t know if my memory is that good, or I just watched the episodes that many times as a kid. Probably a little of both.

But it’s interesting going back and watching the show now. I’ll admit that some of it makes me cringe — the bad fashions, the cheesy jokes, how mean everyone was to Screech.

But you know what? I still really like the show. If nothing else, it’s a chance to look back fondly on something fun and goofy from my childhood. And I think we could all use a little more fun and goofy in our lives, don’t you?

What about you guys? Are there any shows you want to check out or re-watch this summer?

The first season of Saved by the Bell is about $10 on Amazon. So, in honor of that, I’m giving away a $10 Amazon gift card, so you can check out the series for yourself.

  1. I was a huge fan of the A-Team, too, Jennifer. I loved it when a plan came together. I also loved MacGyver, and the darker and much shorter-lived Stringfellow Hawk.

I’d like to rewatch a couple of series in English that I saw dubbed into Afrikaans as a child. I think that would be fun. Series like The Bionic Woman, Buck Rogers and a couple of others. I ‘think’ of those shows in Afrikaans, not English.

Jennifer, this is timely! Yesterday, I picked up a season of X-Files at the library. I rarely watched it when it was on. My husband didn’t care for it, and I’m pretty sure I was already writing then – working during the day and writing at night. Not a lot of time to watch TV.

I do remember I liked the few X-File shows I saw. (There was one with Scully and a genie that was wonderful, and I still remember it.) I’m looking forward to watching these.

    Hi Jennifer,

I’m going to have to try Saved By the Bell! We often rewatch old favorites, and new favorites too, like Sherlock. Some of the shows aren’t as good as I remember them, but some are just as crisp and fun. The 3rd season of Get Smart is as good as any contemporary show. Remington Steele too. Your Show of Shows with Sid Caesar and Imogen Coca has some hilarious skits.

I watched saved the bell too but I cannot really remember it. I used to watch so many series and I would love to see them again, like I dream of jeannie, bewitched, mission impossible e.t.c

  5. Bonnie says:

I would love to watch Night Gallery. I used to watch it with my grandmother when I was little. Thanks for a chance at a great giveaway.

  6. Arien says:

I used to love this show! Admittedly I had a crush on Zack, although sometimes it might have been Slater too. Fun times.
Right now I’m rewatching a mix of XFiles, Fringe, & Firefly. But always up for something else.

  7. Sue C says:

I would love to re-watch Grimm and the original Fame shows.

  8. Saved by the Bell is the goofy version of 90210. LOL I liked it back then but I don’t know I could go back and watch it again.

I loved shows like Mama’s Family, Facts of Life, Married with Children, Designing Women, Mr. Belvedere, Charles in Charge, Gimme a Break, Who’s the Boss, Roseanne, Night Court & The Golden Girls.

I’ve watched reruns of The Golden Girls the most out of the list.

Jennifer! I LOVED Saved by the Bell! I even tried to get my kids to watch it but they opted for show that were current now. I was even a fan of the SBTB – The College Years. LOL. I was definitely all for Zack and Kelly but didn’t like Slater and Jessie together so much. Or Lisa and Slater. I also loved how Zack always one-upped his teachers and Mr. Belding. I like to rewatch shows and movies and reread books. My kids like The Cosby Show so I have been watching a lot of that lately. For me, though, I can watch Friends over and over and still laugh out loud at it.

  10. I loved Scarecrow and Mrs. King, Simon and Simon, Magnum PI, Vegas, Mork and Mindy. I could go on and on, I sure do miss those old shows. They sure are better then what they are showing on TV now with all of those reality shows.

  11. Oh my gosh, I was a huge Saved by the Bell fan, too! So many shows have been mentioned in the comments that I enjoyed. I’ll add one more – Who’s The Boss? I have to admit, though, that oftentimes when I re-watch old shows, they don’t live up to my fond memories.

My heaven am I old ;). SAVED BY THE BELL was my step-sons favorite show. As a kid I loved I DREAM OF JEANNIE and THE LOVE BOAT. I think I could do a marathon of either ;).

  19. Heather Harrigan says:

I just finished re-watching all six seasons if Dawson’s Creek. I really want to do Boston Public, The O.C., and the old Beverley Hills 90210! :-)

  20. Liz Kreger says:

Don’t think I ever really got into “Saved by the Bell”. Situation comedy never really appealed to me. I really liked MASH, LA Law, and Judge Amy (I’m pretty sure that last is the wrong title)

Don’t really have time to watch the tried and true. And can’t really think of any that I’d absolutely have to see the entire seasons.

    Good subject, though, Jenn.

I’ve got the box set of Brisco County Jr. that I want to watch. It was a great show with steampunk elements that I loved when it aired.

  22. Samantha Wallace says:

I love to watch Family Matters and Saved by the Bell also and thanks for the giveaway!!
