MagicalMusings Blogging

First off … sorry about being unable to blog two weeks ago. Edie covered me by posting one of my older blogs from six years ago! Yow! Have I been blogging at MagicalMusings for over six years?

Incredible. I remember when Michelle first came up with this idea. I have to admit that at first, I was really leery of the whole concept. I mean, blogging was relatively new and I knew next to nothing about it. Still, I gave it a shot. Michelle, Edie and I were all unpublished authors and decided to do a blog together aimed at both published and unpublished authors. Our goal was to get our names out there, but mostly to reach out to like-minded authors who were struggling to gain recognition.

At first, there was only the three of us and we rotated doing blogs every three days … and I seem to remember taking Sundays off. Or was it the entire weekend? I forget. Either way, we managed nicely for a couple of years on this schedule, but then it just started getting to be too much for us. One by one, we all got published. Between trying to manage new writing careers, family obligations and outside jobs, the blogging was becoming difficult.

So we brought in new people. Over the years we had a number of published and unpublished authors join us blogging here at MagicalMusings. Some worked out and some didn’t. A few left because of their publishing obligations and they just didn’t have the time and one or two were encouraged to leave because they weren’t meeting our obligations. Still friends with these people, so there were no hard feelings with their departures. 😎

We also changed the subject matter of our blogs … to a certain extent. We’re still aimed at published and unpublished authors, but we also geared our discussions toward readers. As published authors, we wanted to keep in touch with the people who read our work. Get their opinions and preferences.

So, we have changed over the years. Both in subject matter and the number of bloggers (who are wonderful, by the way) who have joined us here at MagicalMusings … Sheila English, Robin Bielman, Misty Evans, Mary Hughes, Dale Mayer and Amy Remus. They sure as hell made my life easier in that I don’t have to stress coming up with a fresh and innovative blog every three days. 😉

Now, I’m asking if there is some way we can improve on our MagicalMusings blogging. Any ideas are welcome … so bring ‘em out.

  1. I don’t think there’s anything you need to change. Personally, I haven’t been stopping by because I’ve just been too lazy. (A fact that slapped me upside the head over the weekend.) But I’m trying to make a change and start reading/commenting again on the blogs I’ve always loved – including this one. =o)

B.E., we love having you stop by!

    • Liz Kreger says:

Thanx, B.E. I did notice your absence and glad you’re returning. I can’t plead innocence because while I read the postings, I’m very guilty ’bout commenting.

And thanx for the comment that nothing needs to change, but I alsso firmly believe we have to keep our blog site fresh.

Liz, I don’t blog at all for just authors anymore. My blogs are mostly for readers, even when I don’t blog about books. And I was nervous at the beginning, too, and was happy to find out that I liked blogging! lol

  3. I love how far we’ve come, and how many friends we’ve made along the way.

Like Edie, I see this blog as being for readers, it just so happens that some of those readers write as well 🙂

And I’m so glad you and Edie agreed to come in with me. It’s been a great adventure.

You guys have done an amazing job with Magical Musings. I first learned about it from Misty. When I got my hands on her books I couldn’t stop at reading everything from her, including where she blogged. And I owe all of my success to you guys. You guys gave me my first chance at really trying to write reviews in a very relaxed way that let me learn about it. That lead me to wanting to review your books too, so I started my own blog So Many Reads. And that has landed me a job at actually assisting a handful of authors. And, now you asked me to blog with you as a reader…so my journey in this book world all started form you guys. I owe you all so much and am so very appreciate that you even gave me a chance at all! <3

    Hi Liz,

It’s wonderful to read how the blog began and see how it has developed over time. Even before I was fortunate enough to join such great bloggers, I loved how MM connects with readers. –I got my first taste with Edie’s great posts. 🙂 The variety of fun, upbeat topics, the entertaining and informative reviews, and the eye catching pictures all work to make a very special place on the net. I feel so lucky to be part of this amazing group. Thank you!

    • Liz Kreger says:

I guess that’s why we try to keep it on a wide range of subject matter, Mary.. Thinking about it, I really don’t think we need to find change.

  6. It’s an honor to be blogging with you guys! Thanks so much for including me in this wonderful home on the web. And wow, 6 years! I hadn’t realized MM had been around that long. Congrats Liz, Edie and Michelle!
Robin Bielman`s last blog was …Hero Sneak Peek

    • Liz Kreger says:

Oh, believe me, Robin, we love having you. Seems like each poster brings their own unique brand with them. That in itself is helping to keep things fresh.

So, I’m going by the comments that no one seems to think we need to do anything to change MagicalMusings.

  7. Dale Mayer says:

    Hi Liz!

So happy to see you back and doing so well. My only complaint is that I’m so busy I can’t find the time to appreciate it!
