Thanks to everyone for reading, and your great comments! The winner of two ebooks from Lori Handeland’s stories is Charlene Fraley! Charlene, please email me at mary @ maryhughesbooks.com to claim your prize.

This month’s Favorite Things has been pre-empted for a Special Announcement! The Favorite Things Countdown will return next month in its regular time slot. :)

I write mostly romance, and mostly first-meet. New couples just starting out on their love journey. It’s great, because I get to be with them in their first flush of attraction, the heart-pounding, giddy flowering stage.

But I don’t get to explore a lot of the meaty moments found as a couple’s relationship grows–and is tested. What if he snores? What about her cold feet at night? Why does she always insist on putting those ice cubes where he’s the warmest?

What do we name the baby?

Nixie’s lost her mojo!

So I’m thrilled when Biting Love readers ask for more Nixie and Julian. I get to deal with some of the same topics that make real, committed love work over time. July 30 I released the latest in their journey as a married couple, Murder at Chipmunk Lake. *Paranormal. Hot.*

Nixie Emerson, punk rock musician and first-time mom-to-be, has a stalker. Warning: contains a cranky pregnant lady trying to control her swearing, a master vampire appeasing his wife with food and creative sex, murder, mayhem and several arguments over what to name the baby.

Mary, your book sounds like so much fun. Good for you for writing Nixie’s second story! I love the title, and too funny about her ice cube feet. I’m looking forward to reading it.

I don’t just have one series; I have many. Jennifer Estep’s Mythos Academy series and any of Michelle Diener’s series. I’m eagerly waiting to read Dale Mayer’s next Psychic Vision book on Stefan when it’s out. Right now, I’m reading through two of Robyn Carr’s series. And I pretty much love all of Jayne Ann Krentz’s series. I’m sure there are more that I can’t remember right now.

  2. Mary Hughes says:

Edie, thanks! I do love the first blush but it’s been a hoot exploring some of the married couple’s quirks. Those are all awesome series. Stefan sounded hot :) Your Rescued Hearts series too!

Oh I love the title of your new book Mary and it sounds very interesing

    • Mary Hughes says:

Thanks Kristine! I write cross-genres, paranormal romance with humor and action, but Murder at Chipmunk Lake falls under the category of Mystery, Thriller and Suspense > Supernatural > Vampire. I didn’t even know there was a category for vampire detectives. Lol. Nixie is in very good company with Sookie Stackhouse and James Patterson’s Alex Cross :)

I love Lori’s Nightcreature series. My favorite part of romance is that first spark of attraction, it’s always fun to see the characters wrestle with what they’re feeling.

    • Mary Hughes says:

      Hi Barbara,

Me too! Nightcreatures rule. I think it was Blue Moon that won me over to first-person romance.

I love that first spark of attraction too! It inspires me, over and over. How two people find each other, then more, find they are absolutely right for each other–despite the obstacles the author might throw in their way. Lol.

  6. Mary, congrats on the new book. I have a series where the heroine and hero’s relationship develops more with each book. There is something very satisfying about that, so I know what you mean.

    • Mary Hughes says:

Thanks, Michelle! Agreed, its very satisfying to explore a deepening relationship.

As a reader too, I like seeing characters I’ve met in other stories and learning more about them. Whether they’re main characters or were main characters who are taking backseat in a new romance, seeing them again is like meeting old friends :)

I would enjoy Murder at Chipmunk Lake. My dog would enjoy it also, since she likes anything with chipmunks in it!
