Once again, I’m so pleased to have historical and paranormal romance author Christina Phillips as a guest on MM. Christina’s wonderful Roman historical romance has been re-released and as someone who read it when it first came out, I can honestly say it is wonderful!

Thank you Michelle for inviting me back to Magical Musings!

Although I was first published only eight years ago, the publishing landscape has changed so dramatically it’s almost unrecognizable. Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined self-publishing my work back then. I was happy to sell my two paranormal short romances to a digital first publisher, and was ecstatic to soon afterwards sign with a New York agent for my first full length historical romance, Forbidden, which sold to one of the (then) Big 6.

Forbidden was a bit of a gamble for everyone. Set during the turbulent years when Rome invaded Britain and Cymru (modern day Wales), it not only had a Roman warrior as a hero but a magical Druid heroine so I had a double whammy right there—the protagonists and the setting were *unusual* and nobody quite knew how to market it.

But you know what? I love my ancient world so much. It’s not just the smoking hot, dominant alpha heroes (*cough* although it does have quite a lot to do with them). I also love my heroines who worship the goddess culture and are used to being treated as equals to men in their everyday life. When hero meets heroine it’s a clash of cultures, ideals and beliefs, and I just had so much fun watching those tough warriors being brought to their knees by their women.

And so, when the opportunity arose for me to claim back the rights to my ancient world romances, there was no doubt in my mind that I’d go ahead and indie publish them. One of the advantages was, at long last, I could finally brand the four books so they looked as though they belonged together! This makes me very happy :). I also gave the books a new series name – The Druid Chronicles – which hopefully gives readers an idea of what the books are about.

The first book, Forbidden, is out now, and the second book, Captive, is up for pre-order. The third and fourth books – Enslaved and Tainted – will be released within the next couple of months.

Although all four books are interlinked with characters reappearing from earlier books, each story can be read as a standalone. There are no cliffhangers and each book delivers a Happily-Ever-After for its couple!

BK1 Forbidden LargeHe was a master of seduction – but no match for the magical allure of the woman he wanted most

Carys knew from the moment she first spied on Maximus in his naked barbarian glory that he was a dangerous Roman centurion – his taut, battle-scarred flesh marking him as a fearless warrior. But her desire for him was as undeniable as it was illicit.

Charged by his emperor to eliminate a clan of powerful Druids in Britain, Maximus never expects his mission to be thwarted by the clan’s ethereal princess, Carys, his daring voyeur. Falling under her spell, he doesn’t realize her true heritage – until he captures her heart as well as her body.

As Carys’ loyalties are twisted, and freedom is no longer her single-minded obsession, an avenging former lover threatens to crush Maximus’ people into oblivion. Now Carys and Maximus must overcome the devastation of war and face the ultimate sacrifice if their forbidden love is to survive.
