Review – Bound to Shadows

Bound to Shadows is (I believe) the eighth book of the Riley Jensen series and in my opinion, one of the best.

Riley’s latest assignment with the Directorate is to find who is beheading vampires near a popular club frequented by the blood whores. Then there’s the added complication of the vamps who feel the laws are too harsh regarding accidental draining deaths and the humans who want to see the laws tightened. A secondary case she’s investigating involves women who are being killed with no trace of violence. How are the two connected?

The owner of the club, Dante Starke is an enigma. He’s a vampire, but who emits a sexual aura that makes even the werewolf in Riley cautious and unwilling to play. As a member of the Melbourne council of vampires, he’s also a likely target for the killer who is doing the beheadings.

Riley’s life gets getting increasingly complicated when her brother and his lover (Liander) wants to use her frozen eggs to start a family. Then when her wolf’s soul mate (Kye Murphy, a cold blooded killer for hire) reappears in her life and makes it hell. Finally the love of her life, Quinn, is doing his best to accept the fact that the werewolf in her has found her soul mate. It seems like an on going joke by fate who just keeps on throwing curve balls at Riley. The pace of the action is fast and furious with a surprise ending that came all too fast in my opinion. However, Keri managed to make it a fitting ending to the story.

It’s my understanding that there will one more book to this series before Keri winds it up — which is a pity because I really enjoy this series. However, I understand the desire (and need) to move on to other projects. Keri has managed to keep this series interesting and action packed. I can highly recommend this book — hell, I’d recommend the entire series if you’re looking for an entertaining and fascinating read. You won’t be disappointed
